Discus Championships at Shaquaria 2010 – Aquapress

China – Shanghai, 15-17 October, 2010

The 5th International Discus, Koi and Goldfish competition took place again in the centre of Shanghai during Shanghai EXPO 2010 in the Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition hall. Heiko Bleher was invited to judge for the 3rd time, as in 2009 and 2008, as well as to hold lectures and Professor Chen Zaizhong, the coordinator had asked Heiko to invite two more excellent judges, which he did. One was Cüneyt Birol from Turkey and the other was Bosse Quiding. Unfortunately the latter became ill shortly before the event and had to cancel.  This unique annual event in China is hosted by Fisheries Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the Shanghai Fisheries Trade Association, and organized by Shanghai International Agricultural Exhibition Center, the Shanghai Ocean University and the Shanghai NIU International Exhibition Co. Ltd., as well as supported by the China Fisheries Association. Below some photos of this unique Chinese Championship …

_{We were three judges, because Bosse was unable to come, that is Cüneyt Birol from Turkey and the most famous and oldest Discus expert and judge in China, Professor Zhirong Zhang from Guangzhou, with whom I had also judged the first Chinese Championships in 1996 in Guangzhou. She also looked at my new book on the laptop while getting all the results of our judging until midnight worked out, because on the opening day all winner were marked so people could appreciate from around the world…}

_{The Minister of Fisheries did the opening speech before the presentation of the judging awards, thanking everyone for their work and engagement.}

_{There was also a Koi Competition and the judges of the Koi categories were also given their awards.}

_{Afterwards we had a delicious diner in one of Shanghai’s prime restaurants, the Dynasty. Together with Professor Chen, and the beautiful coordinator of the entire event, next to Tommy Wong my dear friend from Hong Kong a prime Chinese business man and fish lover who did some collecting with me in China.}

_{The restaurant had a giant and very beautiful marine aquarium, very well kept, and also giant shark fins, next to many delikatessen.}

_{The Championship took place in this fantastic building in the centre of Shanghai and 25,000 visitors came to appreciate the 100plus Discus in Competition.}

_{The Chinese character signs on each one of the aquariums identified immediately the winner. And the upper is the sign for the winner, the middle photos shows the sign for second and the lower the sign for the third placed.}
