Aquarium shop in Shiraz

Iran – Shiraz, May 2011

Image The Aquarium shop Picasso Under Water World in Shiraz is one of the oldest and owned by Saeed Asadi, a very active entrepreneur and comes from a family engaged with Aquarium fishes. It is to note, that Iran is the only country I know of, where dogs and cats are not allowed and there fore almost every household has an aquarium. Saeed is also the one who coordinated in 2010 and in 2011 Heiko Bleher’s International Seminars in Iran.

Saeed Asadi, the very active entrepreneur in Shiraz, who had organized Heiko Bleher’s International Seminars  in 2010 and 2011, has just opened a new Aquarium Shop in the centre of Iran, in a lower shopping arcade off a main stress in beautiful Shiraz.

Saeed Asadi, here with Heiko Bleher in his office (upper), was under construction in his new Under Water World Aquarium Shop, specialized in Discus fishes mainly from Tony Tan in Malaysia. (Heiko had recommended Tony to Saeed.)

Saeed was, as mentioned, the driving wheel since 2009 to bring to Iran the first International Seminars of Ornamental Fishes by Heiko Bleher, which took place finally in 2010 and the second one in 2011 – and they want to do it every year now. These photos above are from the 2011 one.

The partner of Saeed in the import of Discus fishes is his friend Dr. S. Abdolvahab Momeni, who is just started to build a quarantine station also in Shiraz (upper two photos) – and hopefully a breeding place. Here together with Heiko, Behnam and Saeed in front of the new installation.

The family of Saeed, always invited Heiko Bleher to their large home in the outskirts of Shiraz, in a new housing area, very peaceful place. And always for a large feast, which is taken on the floor with every family member. Saeed knew that Heiko during his long seminars needs a strong expresso, specially bought this time a expresso-making-machine (above right), rare to find in the tea-drinking Iran …

The Saeed family has also have a country house outside of Shiraz, which is located at the edge of Iran’s largest saltwater lake and the third largest in the world: Lake Urmia. This lake has 102 islands, the second largest island, Kaboudi, is the burial place of Hulagu Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan. One of the early mentioning of Lake Urmia is from the Assyrian records from 9th century BC. Due to drought and increased demands for agricultural water in the lake’s basin, the salinity of the lake has risen to more than 300 g/l during recent years, and large areas of the lakebed have been desiccated. There is no fish alive in to lake today (salinity to high), the only animals living are Artemia, which are harvested in large quantities every year.
