In 2001 Heiko, with Natasha, discovered a new rainbowfish in the river Ifaupan on Misool Island, Raja Ampat, Indonesia and introduced this beauty to the aquarium hobby. At the time Australian rainbow fish specialist Gerald R. Allen believed it was the same as Melanotaenia misoolensis. This year (2013), together with Gerald, Heiko went back to the island for research and collected additional specimens. Finally G. Allen will describe this rainbowfish as a new species. William Mathews Brooks sponsored the trip where Heiko was able to collect also several possibly new gobies, unique freshwater shrimps and snails...

Heiko Bleher had been invited by the Russian company UNITEX to Judge in Sankt Petersburg last October their JBL Biotope Aquarium Contest. This was a fantastic organized biotope Aquarium competition with authentic biotopes under water from all over the world. The 10 finalists came to S. Petersburg during the yearly Zoosphere Exhibition and had to decorate another biotope and at the end of this video, which shows the details of each biotope in nature and how to make it in aquaria, Heiko explains to each participant what is done correctly and where they cold improve and also handed out the prizes and gave a talk. Very well made video for this ground-breaking event every nature lover, and specially all aquarists, should look at all the way to the end of it.
