Ornamental Fish Farm of Mr. Pushpangadhan

India – Kochi, 12-19 October, 2008

ImagePushpangadhan is a gentle family man, very well organized and it is amazing what he has accomplished in such a very short time in the ornamental fish trade – and specially with his new farm just built in the last few month in the vicinity of Kochi’s international airport.

Push’s new farm consists of an export building (top left), the breeding house (top right), office building and the huge installation for raising the baby fishes (above right)

Image

Push has also a giant piece of land ideal to be developed for outside ponds to raise quality fishes (if well designed and operated correctly). In the middle flows a creek across

In his holding facility and export building Push has over 50 different native fish species at this moment, like Puntius denisonii (top right), P. jerdonii (top left), Barilius canarensis (centre left), Botia loachata (centre right), Channa bleheri – a blue coloured variant (above)…

…and always new and rare fishes like Puntius sp. (left) or P. fasciatus (right)

Image

Heiko found on his recent trip to Kerala this beautiful dwarf Aplocheilus, which could be the mysterious A. parvus known from Sri-Lanka

Image

Horaichthys setnai, is here the first time collected by Heiko and photographed by Natasha. Until today it has been never introduced into the aquarium hobby, although it is probably the most unique killi-fish on Planet Earth

Image

In his breeding house which is very well set up, with a control-sheet on each aquarium (as I did it already 40 years ago, hardly seen today anywhere), individual filter and individual water supply. He breeds at this moment mainly a vast variety of angelfishes…

…he has some real beauties and as mentioned a large variety and does selective line breeding

His concrete vats are very well built with individual drainage system (missing only the water supply and correctly designed overflow)

Image

Push has good packing units for export worldwide – especially with the nearby international airport with connections to every corner of the world (mainly via Dubai)…

Only large vehicles, like the buses that transported the visitors, had a problem on the narrow roads…
