India – Kochi, 12-19 October, 2008
The third farm to visit, a very large-scale breeding establishment also in part financed by MPEDA’s Rainbow Revolution of India, was to Mr. Santhash Baby, in Nellayi, Kerala
Santhash has built many outside ponds, which Heiko inspected carefully, but also several covered concrete vats with good water supply and an excellent drainage system…
…although the filters are much to small for such large vats…
…and there were hardly any fishes in each vat
His main holding and shipping building consist of nice aquarium racks (but to high and not practical, specially as he had enough space) and the automatic energy supply in case of failure
Santhash Baby has a packing section for the fishes in that building, a daylight roof (very good to save energy) and even an office including the laboratory with a microscope…
…he also had just decorated a nice large aquarium in this building with South American water plants and Indian fishes, Puntius denisonii (and there were native aquatic plants growing in the creek flowing along this building…)
