For the second time Heiko Bleher was invited by Saeed Asadi and Fars Fisheries to give a 2-day seminar on ornamental fishes and on a lecture about the unique and mostly endemic fishes of Iran to the Ministry of Fisheries. This is the second important and unique event of its kind in the country where there are possibly more homes with aquariums then in any other country in the world. The was event was so successful that the active aquarium shop owner Saeed, together with the Fars Fisheries, wants to do this seminar now yearly. See below the poster placed all over the country, some photos of the seminars, followed by the topics of the 10 seminars hold by Heiko Bleher during those 2 days and some photos of beautiful Shiraz.

The Iran–Iraq War, was an armed conflict between the armed forces of Iraq and Iran, lasting from 1980 to 1988, making it the longest conventional war of the twentieth century. The war began when Iraq invaded Iran on 22 September 1980 following a long history of border disputes, and fears of Shia insurgency among Iraq’s long-suppressed Shia majority influenced by the Iranian Revolution. Iraq was also aiming to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf state. The war came at a great cost in lives and economic damage – half a million Iraqi and Iranian soldiers as well as civilians are believed to have died in the war and from Shiraz 14,000 – but it brought neither reparations nor change in borders. Along the streets of Shiraz were the photos of each one fallen, and also everywhere one of the past and present Ayatollah. Because of this celebration the also scheduled ornamental fish exhibition was cancelled.

Shiraz’s Qur’an Gate was a part of the great city wall built under the Buwayhid empire. And high above now is the tomb of Khwaju Kermani (in Persian: خواجوی کرمانی) whose full name is Abu’l-ʿAṭā Kamāl-al-Din Maḥmud b. ʿAli b. Maḥmud Morshedi (1280–1352), who was a famous Persian poet and Sufi mystic from from Peria (classical Sufi scholars defined Sufism as “a science whose objective is the reparation of the heart and turning it away from all else but God).

Shiraz is more than 4,000 years old. The name Shiraz is mentioned in cuneiform inscriptions from around 2000 BC found in south-western corner of the Shiraz city. There are ancient inscriptions and carvings in the rocks as well as underground bath build thousands of years ago and until today no one can define who those rulers where. They may date back to Darius I and earlier. Interesting is also that the oldest sample of wine in the world, dating to approximately 7,000 years ago, was discovered on clay jars recovered just outside of Shiraz.
