China – Shanghai, 16 October 2009
Heiko has been invited for the second time by the organizers of the Shaquaria 2009, to participate at the 4th Seminar on the Development of Scientific and Industrial Aquarium on 16 October, 2009 in Shanghai.
The venture was at the Shaquaria 2009 and Heiko Bleher, being invited for the second time by the organizers and Professor Chen of the Shanghai Ocean University, gave a presentation about Discus in nature – distribution, habitats, collecting and nutrition. There was only one other European invited.
The Shanghai International Ornamental Fish and Fishing Exhibition and Conference was extreme well organized and beautifully decorated. Signs with the presentations were placed everywhere. Also very large at the entrance
Alex Ploeg from OFI (which Heiko Bleher founded 1977 with Dr. Martin Tripp in Frankfurt, Germany) spoke about Alien invasive species, same talk he did in Aquarama 2009. He was the only other European invited.
The Grand Old Lady from Guangzhou, talked about the giant breeding establishments in her region, former canton, where there are thousands of ornamental fish breeders established, and their history.
Professor Chen gave a talk about the advancement of fish breeding and the study of ornamental fishes at the Shanghai Ocean University, and some other Chinese delegates.

For lunch break the organizer invited the speakers to an ancient, really traditional, old Chinese Inn, with water fountain, small creek running through, Lotus flowers, ancient tea pots, and furniture all hand carved in ancient times. The food was incredible, unfortunately we could not eat a fraction of all the delicacies served.
