“Ptichiy Rynok” main entrance
People come from all over Russia to this very large building complex to buy their ornamental fish, birds and much more. Some sell their fishes in closed shops (right)…
…some in open stalls, like this one
They sell thousands of fishes of all kinds, cramped in tiny glass aquariums, even discus fishes and freshwater stingrays or larger cichlids like Aequidens rivulatus (lower)
Actually discus are very popular in Russia now – there is a real boom in their request and breeders like Sergey Goryushkin and Igor Kozlov cannot breed enough
Also discus literature is in high demand and besides the only former Russian discus book ever produced, the one of Sergey, now Bleher’s Discus has an incredible success. The bookseller number one on the fish market, here with Heiko, sold over 100 copies already
One of the stalls had some nice wild discus from the Alenquer region
Inside some of the closed stall real tropical rarities can be found, such as Monodactylus sebae, Myleus species, or Barbonymus schwanenfeldii (right)…
…and life fish food, almost anything you want to have for your beloved fishes, like mussels (left) or blood worms (right) can be found
